About Abroad

Research for the biggest trip we'll never sell you.

Mr Hudson designs travel. Abroad answers a bigger question — where a life should happen next — with the same discipline, for the same community.

The story

This started at our own dinner table.

Our founder is Dutch. His husband was born in the United States and became British along the way. Together they've made homes in Switzerland, in Spain, and now in London — which means the questions this service exists to answer have been asked, argued over and answered in their own household, more than once. Which country recognizes what. What the tax treaty actually says. Whether the life on the other side of the paperwork is the one you wanted.

For ten years, Mr Hudson has designed travel for gay men and the wider LGBTQ+ community — clients who notice when research is thin, and who ask questions brochures can't answer. Somewhere around the hundredth conversation that ended with "honestly, we've been thinking about leaving altogether," it became obvious that the most important trip our travelers were planning was the one nobody was researching properly.

The method

Verified, dated, and honest about its limits.

Abroad tracks nine countries to full depth, and says so plainly rather than pretending to cover the world. Every claim in a Dossier is checked against primary sources — statutes, official gazettes, government fee tables — and carries the date we checked it. Where written law and lived practice diverge, we corroborate with practitioners in-country, in writing, and label which is which. When professionals disagree, you're told they disagree. And when we're the wrong product for your case, we say that too — it's the cheapest thing we ever tell you.

The full argument for doing it this way is the founding essay — coming with our launch.

The house

Part of Mr Hudson.

Abroad is built and run inside Mr Hudson, an independent affiliate of Coastline Travel Group. The travel house handles the beautiful part — including the scouting trips that turn a shortlist into a decision. Abroad handles the part that has to be true.
